Is there quality early education out there?

Mr. Rajesh W moved to Pitampura in the search for good education for his children. Vijender Chaudhary's family has shifted to South Delhi....and there are countless other stories from our part of Delhi city where parents left their elderly parents, relatives and friends and migrated to different parts of Delhi and other cities in search of better education for their children. Most challenging part is providing good schooling to toddlers and elementary school children without making them travel 15-20 kilometers in scorching summer heat, rainy season or dense foggy winter mornings.

As we started thinking about opening a school in Narela we didn’t want to be just another school – we wanted to offer something different, something exceptional. As we looked at traditional schools in the area, we found much lacking in quality early childhood education. Schools are there, yes, but they seem to be more like childcare centers, with poorly trained teachers and limited resources. Clearly more attention and effort is going into educating the older children leaving a void for preschool aged tots.

Our Discovery: an unreliable promise

That led us to Montessori. We have been aware of the wonders of Montessori education through our international exposure and were even more excited to find its rich history in India. Maria Montessori came to India in 1939 and during the duration of her stay conducted 16 training courses and help establish her pedagogy in South India. We know Montessori education is world renown and have the outmost respect for its quality and scientifically proven approach – not to mention results! Not only are children joyful and engaged in their learning at such a young age, it impacts them through adulthood. Many successful people attribute their work to the foundation of learning they had in Montessori education when they were young. The founders of google – Larry Page and Sergey Brin went to Montessori school, as well as the founder of amazon.com Jeff Bezos.

All of this made us even more excited to open a Montessori school – but first we wanted to see what was already established. Unfortunately, in our research we have found the availability of such prestigious schools in North India to be lacking. We realized, just like yoga, the name Montessori has not been trademarked. Thus, we have found many schools that call themselves Montessori but due to lack of training, understanding of parents, and greediness of school owners are Montessori in name only. The base in researched child psychology and uniquely designed materials have been completely watered down, if present at all.

This discovery made our passion even stronger as we believe that every child, no matter the area he lives should have access to exceptional education
